Zekai Firat, 64, a pensioner from Mersin, has been living in a cave for 15 years. The Sonhaberler news publication writes about this on Tuesday, May 12.

According to a widespread report, the man makes his living by selling herbs he has collected and his own hand-made salep. He also sells asparagus, garlic and herbs.

According to Firat, he has no desire to return to civilization.

“Nature is closer to me than people,” he says.

Firat also noted that he has no relatives, and choosing between a nursing home, where he is officially registered and a cave, he prefers the latter option.

During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, residents of neighboring villages help Firat with food and clothing, never tired of being amazed at his stamina and desire to live away from people.
