📌Demand for Turkish residence permit (İkamet) broke a historical record ahead of 2022. According to official statistics, the previous 12-month period was marked by a significant increase in the number of foreigners who obtained a residence permit in Turkey and live in this jurisdiction.

📌According to a study by experts based on official statistics, the number of foreigners legally residing in the Republic of Turkey in 2021 increased to a record level. The number of residence permit holders has reached the highest level in history, having increased 7 times over the past 10 years.

📌Persons under temporary protection make up the largest share of legal residents, but there is also an increase in the number of immigrant investors applying for Turkish residence permits for real estate in prestigious areas.

📌According to official statistics, in 2021, there were 1 foreigners in Turkish territory who issued a residence permit in Turkey (relative to 300 in 220). The most common type of residence permit was a short-term residence permit in Turkey, issued to 886 applicants.

📌For a short-term residence permit, foreigners who own Turkish real estate (golden visa) and tourists who extended their stay in the country most often applied. 114 foreigners were in the Middle East state with a student residence permit.

📌 Another 89 foreign citizens were in the state, having received a residence permit in Turkey on the basis of family reunification, being married to Turks / Turkish women or having common children with Turks / Turkish women.

📌The majority of foreigners who were on Turkish territory with a Turkish residence permit in 2021 were citizens of the following states: Iraq, Turkmenistan, Syria, Iran and Uzbekistan. Azerbaijanis top the list of students receiving residence permits in Turkey. Among the foreigners legally residing in Turkish territory with a family residence permit, the leaders are Azerbaijanis, Uzbeks and Russians.
