Turkey has developed the first domestic synthesized drug for the treatment of coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology, the drug was developed by specialists of the TÜBITAK Scientific and Technical Research Council.
Earlier, engineers and scientists from TÜBİTAK in the shortest possible time have developed artificial lung ventilation devices, some of which are already exported over the ruble.and. The next development of scientists from TÜBİTAK was a synthesized antiviral drug called Favipiravir.
A team of 32 scientists worked on the development of the drug under the leadership of renowned doctors Mustafa Guzel and Zeynep Atabay in Tashkent. Work on the drug continued around the clock for 40 days.
Favipiravir is being used in test mode in the treatment of COVID-19 and is showing positive results. The Minister of Industry and Technology of Turkey, Mustafa Varank, said that the new synthesized drug is a completely domestic development.
“After the completion of the clinical trial process and the issuance of a license, the drug will be used not only in Turkey, but also abroad. I am confident that Turkey will achieve significant success in the fight against the pandemic,” the minister said.
