Famous historical sites in Turkey, including the ancient city of Ephesus, the Trojan horse at Canakkale, the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne province, Cappadocia's Fairy Fireplaces and hundreds of popular destinations across the country participated in Earth Hour.

Earth Hour is a global annual international action organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which celebrates its 14th anniversary this year.

Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavash appealed to the residents of the capital to support this global environmental campaign and turn off all lights in houses for one hour from 20:30 to 21:30. And the Atakule tower in the center of Ankara went into darkness in the evening.

WWF's environmental campaign did not pass by the largest city in Turkey. So in Istanbul, the illumination of bridges over the Bosphorus, Topkapi and Dolmabahce palaces, Galata tower and Ortakoy mosque, as well as the largest football stadiums and universities was turned off for an hour.

In Izmir, the illumination of the famous Clock Tower, several universities, as well as a number of other sights of the city went out for an hour.
